How to succeed with Coloreel effects when using lettering

This article will share some insights and tips on how lettering and Coloreel effect swatches can be embroidered with good results and striking looks.

Most fonts can be used for color effect swatches. Some works well, and some work better.
Fonts in the "New embroidery fonts" category will generally work well with effect swatches.
Gradient swatches will be more challenging for block- and serif fonts. Try them out and find the correct settings to make it look good. Script-type fonts will generally work better when using Gradient swatches.
Coloreel has developed and edited two Tajima DG16 fonts to perform better when using gradient effects. Both fonts are available for free download and work fine with other versions of Tajima DG software.

The connection type should always be set to: "As digitized." This setting will make the gradients flow more consistently on the letters. Extra crucial if you use narrow gradients.

- The top lettering in the above images is set to default "Closest point" connection, and the bottom is set to "As digitized." Note the break in the gradients at the "B" and "l" letters. The breakup of color in the letter "o" is hard to hide with narrow gradients.
- A good idea is to use longer gradients which are more forgiving. The left lettering image is a 5-color gradient that will give shorter gradients (fewer stitches to transform the colors), and the second is a 2-color gradient with the same properties, providing more stitches for the gradient colors.
